production. Responsible for identification of research opportunities and
funding to improve production, including new species, improving production
methods for present species and other aspects of the company such as
marketing, PR, environmental impact reduction.

Senior Research Scientist –

Tasmanian Aquaculture & Fisheries Institute, University of
Tasmania, Hobart, Tasmania.
Responsible for managing the physical, human and financial
resources of the Aquaculture Program and the ‘state of the art’ $2.5 million
marine hatchery facility. Responsible for managing the Government core grant
funding ($500,000) and procurement of external funding from national funding
bodies. The main areas of research were the development of new finfish and
crustacean species for Tasmanian aquaculture.

Sir Winston Churchill Memorial Trust.
Study
tour of commercial hatchery and ongrowing techniques for flatfish in Europe
and Japan. Visited around 30
marine farms and research facilities in England, Scotland, Wales, Norway,
Denmark, Spain, France and Japan.
1989-
1996 Lecturer

University of Tasmania,
Launceston, Tasmania.
Responsible for managing a number of teaching units
including: Aquatic Technology (recirculation systems), Finfish Culture and the
external Aquaculture course for the Australian Maritime College. Lectured in
larval fish nutrition and gave a number of special lectures on flatfish
culture. Supervised Honours students and undergraduate research projects. I
completed my PhD during this period and was involved in external grant funding
applications as well as presenting the results of my work and publishing in
both industry and scientific journals.
1988-
1989 Technical Officer,
Sevrup Fisheries PLC., Cressy, Tasmania.
Responsible for daily routine technical duties on this large
salmonid production hatchery, including packaging of eggs for shipment
overseas, grading, stripping, disease treatment and feeding. I applied for
resident status in Australia during this time.
1985-
1987 Production Manager,
Weir
House Trout Farms Ltd., Chesham, UK.
Responsible for production and procurement of brown trout
and salmon for restocking (including River Thames restocking programme) and
rainbow trout for gilling, gutting filleting, hot and cold smoking, freezing,
vacuum and controlled atmosphere packaging. Designed and built a salmonid
hatchery. Heavily involved (including procurement of venture capital funding
from Baronsmead Pty Ltd.) in design and construction of a large processing
factory for production of value-added product in cooperation with the British
Trout Association, for distribution to Mark’s and Spencer and other major
supermarkets.
1984- 1985 Deputy Manager,
Franklyn’s Fish Farms Ltd., Alresford, UK
Responsible for managing small teams conducting daily
routine technical duties on this large salmonid ongrowing farm, including
grading, stripping, disease treatment and feeding of rainbow trout, brown
trout and brook trout.

One year’s work experience prior to studying
for the degree of BSc. In Fisheries science. I was involved in grading,
feeding and late night monitoring.
